LOS ANGELES NOW HAS ITS VERY OWN CHOLEV YISROEL MILK! – La Créme Dairy! Local couple starts a cholev Yisroel milk business in Los Angeles Chaim (28) and Mariasha Fyzakov (26) originally from Denver and Montreal respectively, moved to Los Angeles shortly after getting married 5 years ago. Chaim was born in Alabama. His father was a Schochet there. They moved to 6 different states before settling in Denver, Colorado. Chaim learnt Safrus and Shechita when he was 18 years old and has been practicing both since. Chiam does Shechita approximately once a month for people privately. He Shechts cows, sheep, goats, doves, ducks, geese, chicken…. Mariasha is a math teacher at Ohel Chana High School. Cholev Yisroel milk has historicaly come from New York. Because of the travel time to the West coast by the time we get the milk we have a very short time to drink before the expiration date. Chaim thought if Cholev Yisroel milk was processed here in California we can eliminate the problem of our milk going bad quickly. When Chaim and Mariasha realized the great need for local, fresh, Cholov Yisroel milk in Los Angeles Chaim got straight to work placing phone call after phone call and began learning about how to process milk in California. It was no easy task finding a farm close by, but with much persistence he found a small farm just outside of Los Angeles who were looking to expand from their usual raw milk sales to processing milk. The timing was just right! It was a big job to pull the project together. The journey began with the idea and the realization of a need. Chiam had to completey learn about the milking and milk processesing business on the go. Visiting farms, establishing relationships with processising plants etc. From idea to bottles in stores it took about 4 years. They are thrilled to be able to provide the Los Angeles community with a fresher and local option. The milking and processing are both done on site and then distributed into stores the following morning. Can’t get fresher than that!! Currently, whole milk, low fat milk, and non fat milk are being processed and sold at stores with the hopes of more products such as chocolate milk, organic milk, goat milk and heavy cream in the near future. Of course because the La Creme milk is processed here in Los Angeles the cost also seems to be a bit lower. The La Créme Dairy is under the Hashgacha of the OK and can be found in most kosher markets throughout Los Angeles and the Valley. Look for it soon in Ralphs and Smart & Final.
